The Communication and Media programme is a three-year rigorous orientation aimed at equipping students with skills, knowledge, and attitude that enable them to aspire for leadership roles in the domain of media and communication.

In the first semester, ‘Introduction to Mass Communication’ has been designed to help students understand the definition of communication, its different forms, its varied conceptions, practices, problems and possibilities. ‘Critical thinking’, a skill enhancement course, is aimed at introducing the students to different aspects of critical thinking, its methods and processes and go on to provide a platform for practice

In the second semester, the core course on ‘Print Media Production’ will introduce students to the basic computer skills needed for page layout, graphic design and web design. The other key aim is to enable the student to pick up effective reporting, interviewing and editing skills meant for the print media. The skill enhancement course for the second semester ‘Strategic Storytelling’ hopes to enable the students to move beyond automated execution of media roles and responsibilities and creatively make an effective difference.

‘Broadcast Media’ is a core course in the third semester, which will provide students with hands-on training in producing and editing broadcast programmes. This course will help students get an insider’s view of radio and television media and introduce them to scriptwriting and anchoring.  The skill enhancement course for the semester – ‘Software for Media’ - will teach them the varied audio, video software and production techniques.

‘Social Media’, a new course, will introduce the students to the fast-emerging domain and equip them to understand the medium, its dynamics and produce media content for varied audience groups. ‘Reading Cinema’ is a skill enhancement course where the domain of cinema as an important media of communication would be analysed. The course will have screenings and interaction with members from the industry and enable stimulating discussions and learning. The learning from the ‘Strategic Storytelling’ and the ‘Broadcast Media’ courses will be utilized for interpreting films from a narrative and film-making perspective.

At the end of the second year, students will be required to do an internship in either print/radio/television/cinema/ social media and provide a detailed report of the same under a prescribed format.
In the fifth semester, students would be doing an elective course on ‘Advertising’ wherein they would learn the process of advertising, copywriting, client servicing, and brand building, etc., across traditional and non-traditional media. The other elective would be Public Relations. Depending upon their interests, students can choose the one of their choice.

In the sixth semester, Media Research is introduced as a core course. Students would pick up research skills and go on to do a working paper on any of the key media issues. For the discipline specific-electives, this semester offers Mass Communication, Culture and Ethics as one choice and Mass Communication and Rights as the other choice. The electives are aimed at strengthening the theoretical base of the students in the domain of media and communication.

Selection process results will be available on https://espro.christuniversity.in/Application/ according to the important dates section. Selected candidates will receive an E-Offer of admission that will be valid up to the date mentioned in the Offer of admission.

To process admission

  • Candidates must choose the preferred date and time from available options to facilitate a smooth admission process.
  • Admission must be processed at the campus where the programme is offered as published in the offer of admission.
  • As per UGC guidelines, fee payment has to be made through online mode.
  • Payment options and details will be available in the offer of admission.
  • Fees for the first year including Admission Registration fee must be paid in full as part of the admission process.

All original marks cards and one set of photocopies must be submitted for verification at the time of admission as mentioned below

  • Class 10 Marks Statement and Class 11/12 Marks Statement (Mandatory).
  • Transfer Certificate (TC) of Class 12 from the last qualified institution must be submitted by 30 August 2024 (Mandatory).
  • Migration Certificate of Class 12 (applicable for all candidates except Karnataka state board applicants) must be submitted by 30 August 2024 (Mandatory).
  • One Stamp size and one passport size photograph formal dress with a white background (Mandatory).
  • Two Copies of the Online Payment Acknowledgment (Mandatory).
  • Copy of valid ID proof (Aadhar Card and PAN Card).
  • Candidates falling under any of these categories (NRI / PIO / OCI / SAARC / AFRICA / ASEAN / OTHER FOREIGN NATIONALS) have to submit:
  1. Copy of Passport and Visa Details (Mandatory).
  2. PIO / OCI have to produce a copy of the PIO / OCI card whichever is applicable (Mandatory).
  3. Medical Fitness Certificate (MFC) from any recognized medical practitioner certified by the Medical Council of India and
  4. Resident Permit (RP) (If available while applying)

All mandatory documents must be submitted for verification during the admission process.

An undertaking for pending original documents unavailable currently [applicable only for candidates writing/passing their exam in March – June - 2024], must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. These documents must be submitted on or before 30 August 2024.

  • Failure to submit the pending documents will be treated as unsuccessful in the qualifying examination or considered “Not Eligible”, and admission will be terminated from CHRIST (Deemed to be University) without any claim.
  • All admitted students must open an account at South Indian Bank, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Branch as part of the admission process and must carry relevant ID proof (Aadhar Card and Pan Card).
  • The University ID card is a smart card, which is both an ID cum ATM card with a chip containing the student personal details. All transactions within the University campus after the commencement of classes, including fee payment, will be processed only through this card. It is also an access card for Library and other restricted places.
  • Selected candidates who fall under International student category (ISC) should register with the Foreigner Regional Registration Officer (FRRO / FRO) of the Local Police in Bengaluru, India within 14 working days from the date of admission or arriving in Bengaluru.

The date of commencement of the academic Year 2024 will be intimated during the admission process.

Applicants may apply for the programme from 8th December 2023. Applications will be available online on the University website www.christuniversity.in till the date applications officially close.

Applications for each programme will close approximately a week before the scheduled selection process.

All applicants must visit the page: https://appstat.christuniversity.in and register by entering NAME (as printed on Class 10 Marks Card), EMAIL-ID and set a password.  (The email id and mobile number provided will be used for sending confirmation and application status-update messages). An applicant can apply for as many programmes using the same ID as long as the prescribed eligibility criteria for the specific programme is fulfilled.

Applicants must have the following documents before filling the application online:

  • Copy of statement of marks of Class 10, Class 11/ 12, (Mandatory).
  • Fill in all the details in the “detailed application” page. Scan and upload a recent passport size photograph (3.5 cms x 4.5 cms formal dress with white background) and click “Submit”. On clicking Submit, a viewable and editable page will appear on the screen. In case you need to make any corrections; you may edit the data/details and then click “Confirm Submission”.
  • Make payment using a card and after successful payment, click on submit. A 9 (Nine) digit Application number will be generated. If unable to print the application form due to system/power/internet failure, logon to https://appstat.christuniversity.in, under the “Application Status” page enter the registered Email-ID and password to view and print the application form. (After payment if you do not receive the 9 (Nine) digit application number, then your application process is incomplete, and payment will go in for refund process. The refund will take about 15 days and must be checked with your bank).

  • All other candidates will have to carry the application printout, original documents and a set of photocopies to the selection process on the allotted date, time and venue mentioned on the selection process admit card.

  • All travel arrangements if necessary, have to be made in advance.
  • The Important Dates section must be referred to before filling the application, or candidates can choose the selection process dates while filling the application online.
  • No request for change of date/city will be entertained.
  • Applicants applying while in their final year of schooling must carry the marks card up to the previous year when they report to the selection process venue. Eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) in any stream (Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce & Management, Sciences) from any recognised Board in India.

Candidates writing the +2 examinations in March-May 2023 may apply with their class X and XI marks.
Students pursuing International curriculum must note that eligibility is according to AIU stipulations:

  • Applicants pursuing IB curriculum must have 3 HL and 3 SL with 24 credits.
  • Applicants pursuing GCE / Edexcel must have a minimum of 3 A levels with a grade not less than C.

  • have IELTS 6.0 with no sub-score below 5.5 or TOEFL (paper) 550, TOEFL (computer) of 213 or TOEFL (IBT) of 79 scores

Candidates without the above pre-qualifications will have to enroll either for

  • Intensive Certificate course in English Language (Full Time) conducted from March to May each year or   
  • One Semester Certificate course in English Language (Part Time) conducted after regular class hours from June to December.

Note: The International Student category fee structure is binding for the full duration of the programme and cannot be transferred /changed in between.

Candidates from the above listed categories having pursued Indian Educational qualification and who may have applied under the Indian States Category will have to pay the International Student Category Fee. The decision of the Admission committee is final.

Students who fall under any of the following classifications can apply under NRI Student category and be liable to pay the fees applicable to the category for the entire duration of the programme

1. NRI defined under the Indian Income Tax Law

2. Either of the parents is outside India (except Nepal) on Work Permit / Resident Permit.

3. Indian citizen financed by any Institution / agency outside India, even if parents are Residents of India.

4. Indian Citizen who has pursued studies for qualifying examination in any foreign / Indian syllabus outside India..

5. NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the programme for candidates who;
   5.1. Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
   5.2. Are NRI and candidates who have applied under NRI category

 

Admission to all programmes is based on academic achievement and CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Selection Process. Candidates should submit the final results of class 12 on or before August 30th of the admission year.

By the end of the programme students should be able to:

PO1  Demonstrate foundational knowledge in the domains of print media, visual media, digital media and advertising and public relations
PO2  Apply different media and communication skills like reporting, editing, designing, producing multimedia content that are informed by critical thinking and storytelling approaches
PO3  Practice media with a social outlook that is driven by the ethical, legal, professional and cultural sensibilities of the time and spaces we inherit
PO4  Apply basic theoretical and research-driven approaches in the domains of Media and Communication, English Literature and Psychology

  • Eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) in any stream (Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce & Management, Sciences) from any recognised Board in India.
  • Candidates writing the +2 examinations in March-May 2022 may apply with their class X and XI marks.

Students pursuing International curriculum must note that eligibility is according to AIU stipulations:

  • Applicants pursuing IB curriculum must have 3 HL and 3 SL with 24 credits.
  • Applicants pursuing GCE / Edexcel must have a minimum of 3 A levels with a grade not less than C.

# The fee for Karnataka domicile students, as indicated in the table, is the actual fee payable and excludes the scholarship amount.
 
It is to be noted that though the fee is fixed for three years, there may be a periodic nominal increase to meet the rise in costs.
 
1. NRI fee is applicable for the first year for candidates who have studied foreign syllabus (has to be approved by UGC / AIU) in the qualifying examination of study in India. (The above condition is not applicable to NRI and candidates applied under NRI Category).
 
2. NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who;
    2.1. Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
    2.2. Are NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.
 
3. To claim the Indian / Karnataka category fee, the candidates should have studied last 7 years in India / Karnataka. (Not applicable for OCI, PIO and Foreign Nationals).
 
4. Admission registration fee of INR 5000/- is non-refundable in the event of cancellation of admission. This fee will be apart from cancellation charges if applicable.
 
5. All Candidates If “Selected” after appearing for the final selection process, the fee may be paid through the following option:
  • Payment can be made through Net banking / NEFT / RTGS
  • Payment / Transfer of fees does not guarantee admission.

Scanned copies of the class 10, class 11/12 marks card should be uploaded while filling the application.

* If class 12 marks are not available at the time of applying, then marks of any test conducted during class 11 can be uploaded.

The office of admissions will verify the scorecards.

*Applications with no scorecards or not clear scanned copies will be rejected and termed as Not Eligible

Important Instructions

  • Read all Important Links (Eligibility, Documents requirements etc) thoroughly.
  • The date and time for the selection process are auto-generated by the system. Therefore, any request for changes will not be entertained.
  • Candidates failing to appear for the selection process at the stipulated date and time will be considered as “Not Selected”.
  • Candidates must show the original Government recognized photo identity card (Aadhar card/Passport/Voter ID/Recent College ID card) for attending the online selection process. Failing which the application will be considered as “Not Selected”.
  • All original Class 10, Class 12, Degree Marks Card (Students pursuing their final year must have the statement of marks up to the previous semester/year) should be available for verification during the personal interview round.
  • It is recommended to login atleast 15mts before the scheduled time to avoid any last-minute technical glitches.
  • Impersonation or any suspicious behaviour (prompting by a third person or accessing notes/gadgets) will be treated as malpractice and the application will be termed as “Not Selected”.
  • The responsibility of satisfying the eligibility criteria for admission rests with the student/candidate. The issue of the E-Admit Card for the selection process does not imply that the eligibility criteria are satisfied.
