Dr Afthab Hussain, senior lecturer at Coventry University aims to translate research from “bench side” to bedside”. To inspire young minds and to expand the world of pharmacology, he conducted a talk in CHRIST (Deemed to be University) from 11AM to 12 noonon the “development of a therapeutic drug- from bench side to bedside” on 28th June, 2016. His primary focus was to give an overview of pharmacology and its importance along with introducing the participants to the future prospects of biotechnology.

Dr Hussain started off with explaining what pharmacology is and the relevance of drugs to living systems. He went on to describe precisely what a drug is, why we need it and emphasized on how they are compounds found in everyday foods, which all affect us- in a good way or bad. He highlighted the difficulties of drug discovery, but ensured to instil in our minds how important it is, especially while trying to use drugs from the laboratory “bench side” and make it applicable for patients’  “bedsides”. Then, he continued to acquaint the participants to the future prospects of young B. Sc. Students, which included future studies abroad, in universities like Coventry University in various fields, including Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, etc. He finished off by inspiring the students with the plethora of work and experience opportunities that are available if they choose to go down the path of Biotechnology and its applied fields. His motivating words set many minds into action, towards the awaiting future.
